OOTD: Tuesday + Cupcakes

Today seemed like such a long day even though we didn't do much. I think it was the weather that wore me out. It got up to 84 at one point. After Zoe's late morning nap I went to the fridge to make her lunch but I realized there was not enough for both of us to eat. Since I was dressed and ready to go I decided to go to Zoë's Kitchen for lunch. I got the club pita with their amazing potato salad, and Zoe had grilled chicken and fruit. She LOVES chicken. Hands down that is her favorite food. She could just eat chicken all day long.

After lunch we stopped by CVS. I got a phone call from CVS this morning that one prescription was ready. I don't know about yours but mine calls to the point of harassment until I decide to go in. Then we stopped by a new, local place called Cupcakes Etcetera. I love supporting local businesses and this one is in the same shopping center as my Kroger. The shop has chandeliers, bistro tables, and comfy seating. They even me an email of my receipt instead of a paper copy! I brought home a vanilla cupcake for myself and a strawberry for Nick. My cupcake was delicious! Most importantly, the icing to cake ratio was perfect. Nick said he loved his cupcake too. :)

Caught opening the cabinet!

Our cupcakes from Cupcakes Etcetera!

This dress is so comfortable and effortless. I always end up wearing it with this vest though. I tried beachy waves again but this time I used my flat iron. This picture doesn't do them justice but they came out much better. I'm hoping they look good tomorrow too because I hear the flat iron curls/ waves last longer than any other.

April 2013 Favorites

With April coming to a close I thought I would share some of my favorite things. These are items I've been reaching for over and over again and a few are oldies but goodies! I know it's cliche, but this month has really flown by. Probably because Zoe is now walking and I have a hard time keeping up with her. By the way, I'm really glad she waited until she was super steady to start walking. We haven't had any crash and burn or face plant situations and I'm thankful for that.

1) Lemon Pellegrino- I recently rediscovered this at Whole Foods (they have it at Kroger too). Other than coffee and a tiny glass of orange juice in the morning all I drink is water. So this is a good way to switch things up! If you like sparkling water and lemon you will LOVE this stuff.

2) Burt's Bees Lip Gloss- This is a new product and I already have two shades: Ocean Sunrise (a golden pink) and Nearly Dusk (shimmery mauve). These have a great consistency (not too sticky) and a sheer color. They are great for layering over tinted lip balm. You can find Burt's Bees products at Kroger, CVS, or Target.

3) L'Oreal Sublime Bronze Tinted Self Tanning Lotion- I have used a different version (Gelee) of this before but this was all my local Kroger had. I must say I love it though. I like that it is tinted so you can see where you have and have not applied it. It dries really quickly too. It is really dark so pay attention to which skin tone it's best for or it will look unnaturally dark. Obviously I love this because its like a tan in a bottle. Wrinkles and skin cancer are so gross so if you're still using a tanning bed- stop! They sell this stuff everywhere.

4) Gud Body Wash in Floral Cherrynova- I found this by accident. I was completely out of body wash so while I was at the grocery store I stopped by the organic beauty section. I was smelling all of the products (like you don't do that too?) and this one smelled soooo good in the bottle. It smells just as good in the shower. This product can be found at Kroger or Target.

5) Gud Body Lotion in Floral Cherrynova- I had to get the lotion too. I'm still on the hunt for the body mist and you better believe I'm getting the shampoo and conditioner when I run out my current ones. This can also be found at Kroger or Target.

6) Boo Boo Bling- I don't know what it is but I have burned myself not once but twice this month! First on the iron and then on the curling iron. I guess that is what I get for using a curling iron in 2013. Normally, I don't use a bandage. I like to let burns or cuts air out. But both burns were in areas that would get irritated easily so I had to use one. These little blingy stickers go over a bandage to dress it up a bit! Like I said, I don't normally use bandages so its not like I'm always walking around with body bling every day but these sure do bring a smile to my face. Here is their website.

7) Octopus Ring- My mom actually got this for me at Nordstrom! It was only about $15 but I constantly get compliments on it. I think it's just fab for dressing up an outfit. Zoe loves playing with it too. It's no longer on the Nordsrtom website but I found something similar on Amazon.

8) Boogie Wipes in Grape- I'm a mom so a kid-related item was bound to pop up in my list. These things are great for, you know, boogies! I have tried all the scents and the grape is the best smelling to me. The ones in the green package give me a headache. I always have these in Zoe's room and in my diaper bag. I get mine at Target but I've also found them at Kroger and Babies R Us.

9) eos Smooth Sphere Lip Balm in Strawberry Parfait- I started using this stuff when it first came out. I had the shave cream, body lotion, hand lotion, and lip balm and I got weird looks from people. I personally LOVE eos products but for some reason everyone else is really irritated by their packaging. Anyways, this flavor is phenomenal! It has earned a spot on my nightstand as well as my purse (pretty high honors for a clear lip balm). It's great for using at night, before applying lipstick or lipgloss and just for touch ups during the day. These were hard to find way back when they came out but I see them everywhere now- CVS, Ulta, Target, Walgreens, Walmart, etc.

So those are my favorites! What have you been reaching for all month long?

OOTD: Monday + Starbucks Mini Haul

We had quite the eventful night last night. While I was making dinner it got incredibly hot inside the living room/ kitchen. I assumed it was because I had three burners and the oven on. Nick took a fan out of our bathroom and placed it in the kitchen as well as turning on the stove vent. But nothing seemed to help. Even as I was putting Zoe to bed I was hot. After that Nick went to check the thermostat because I never complain about it being too hot inside the house. He discovered the air conditioner wasn't working! The fan was on but it was not blowing cold air. He went up to the attic to change the filter hoping that would work. Nothing. Then he went outside to look at the unit. Nothing. Then he tried switching the circuit breaker off and on. Nothing. We gave up because it was getting late (and we have no experience with a/c). So we turned up all the ceiling fans and put an oscillating fan in Zoe's room. Nick stayed home from work today so we called two different companies to come out. Luckily, one company was able to come around 1:30 and fix it. I was at the grocery store with Zoe but Nick told me an animal chewed through a wire! It never got unbearably hot, I got cold while I was sleeping but I'm glad to have it fixed. Nothing bothers me more than broken stuff, especially around the house!

Zoe and I went to the grocery store today while Nick stayed home to wait for the air conditioner to be looked at. I snagged the last fun shopping cart (you know with the little car in the front) for Zoe. She happily sat in the driver's seat with a snack and some toys. Those things are a pain in the rear to maneuver. We stopped by Starbucks first (shocker!) and I noticed a bunch of carts with boxes. They were putting new merchandise on the shelves! I was drawn to the hot pink dome lid of this cup and I knew it would be perfect for summertime (anytime, really). I already have two tall and two grande sized frappuccino cups but I HAD to have this larger size. After getting home from the grocery store we decided to stay in. It was supposed to rain a lot again but we just had a tiny bit of a drizzle. So we all just had a cozy night in!

Here is my new 24 ounce cup. It came with a hot pink dome lid, a light green flat lid, and an extra long straw.

And I also got some cold to-go ice cubes!

Zoe playing with Pixie. Actually she was rubbing a toy all over Pix.

I love my husband for taking my OOTD photos but I don't love it when he snaps pics of me getting ready!

OOTD: Sunday + Spurs Sweep the Lakers!

Today we took a trip to Famous Footwear and Kohl's for Nick. He had some gift certificates from his birthday he wanted to use. He pretty much only buys his clothes with gift cards! He ended up getting a new pair of shoes and two pairs of jeans. Zoe made lots of friends at Kohl's. All of the employees were talking to her while Nick was in the dressing room. After that we stopped by Subway to get lunch. Then we came home so Zoe could take her afternoon nap. I made spaghetti, rotini, meatballs, marinara sauce, garlic bread, salad, and chocolate chip cookies for dinner. That's sounds like a lot but to be honest I used jar sauce and frozen garlic bread. :)

Today I was inspired by Fiesta. I was not able to return to my hometown to participate in any festivities but I was there in spirit! Like I have said before, I love a good wedge. These are perfect for spring and summertime. My necklace is actually from the restaurant where I had my lingerie shower (I can't remember the name though). I did find some similar necklaces from Sparkle Plenty on Etsy. The shop is located in San Antonio so they may be the same as mine. Go  Spurs Go!

OOTD: Saturday + Starbucks + Girl's Night In

Today Zoe and I met some friends at Starbucks. We were also supposed to swing by Babies R Us but the weather went CRAZY! I really didn't even think it would rain but it poured. So we headed home to get out of the bad weather. Nick went to a motorcycle show with some co-workers so Zoe and I got to spend the evening together. We ate dinner, took a bath, watched Monsters Inc., then I put Zoe to bed and gave myself a mani/pedi. It was fun to just relax and do girly things!

I did not add a "similar" product for the jeans because 1) they were difficult to find a good match online and 2) high waisted flares are a very hard to pull off look. I think for this particular pair you have to have more of a straight figure (because the fit will give off the appearance of an hourglass shape) and long legs. If you are on the petite side you run the risk of making your legs appear shorter than they already are. So for you curvy or petite gals go with a skinny boot cut or straight leg jean. :)

OOTD: Friday + Target Mini Haul + Naps, or Lack Thereof

I have been struggling with getting Zoe back on schedule since Monday and today she is REALLY back on track! Yesterday I did not get much done. Zoe slept well (about 11 hours) and we went to story time at the library. I didn't get any pictures of Zoe because another little girl kept trying to take away her keys (actually MY keys with a Hello Kitty keychain). So I was watching them both like a hawk. Zoe didn't seem tired but we left because I knew I had things to do around the house and errands. The little stinker fell asleep in the car so she must have been exhausted. I tried putting her down in her crib but she wasn't having it. She played in her crib for about an hour and when she started fussing I went to get her. So I let her play and then we ate lunch. I let her play again and put her down at 2:30 which is totally not her second nap time but I knew she was tired. She fell asleep immediately and I thought she would sleep 2-3 hours. Boy was I wrong. She only slept 30 minutes. I'm guessing this was because she was over tired. She fussed for 30 minutes so I went to get her. She played, got fussy and I tried to get her to go to sleep on me. We repeated this process a few more times. My saint of a husband brought dinner home and Zoe played a bit after eating before finally going down in a blaze of glory at 8:15. Whew- that was a longer story than I anticipated!

I'm happy to report that Zoe slept 11 1/2 hours last night, took a 2 hour morning nap and is currently taking her afternoon nap (YAY!). I tweaked the times a bit so I think that helped. We were on our way home from Target and I saw her dozing off so I found the most obnoxious music I could think of and blasted it. She takes after her father and I and is annoyed by rap and newer Madonna.

Happy girl after her afternoon nap!

It's getting more difficult to get a good picture now that she is walking so quickly!

Silly girl after chasing Pixie around the kitchen table.

Today I tried out beachy waves. I don't wash my hair every day so this was a fun way to break up the monotony.

Here is Zoe's mini haul from Target- Momma straw cup, monkey harness (Now that she is walking I would prefer for her to wear this in public. I don't care what you think of me. I would rather out my kid on a glorified leash than have her get lost or kidnapped), BabyGanics sunscreen stick (great for the diaper bag), Munchkin corner bath organizer, Boogie Wipes in grape (love these things).

And my mini haul- Revlong sparkly nail file, Goody Ouchless elastics (last time I tried to find these they had every color but brown so I bought I weird combo pack), Gud body lotion in Floral Cherrynova (LOVE this scent!), Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer (I've never tried this before), and Pixi Wakeup Concealer.

OOTD: Wednesday- Back on Track

I'm pretty sure Zoe is feeling better today- yay! She slept 12 hours last night (not unusual for her) without coughing, sneezing or fussing! We did give her a bit of cough syrup to soothe her and help her sleep and I think it did the trick. Her first nap was even two hours long so I know she is still recovering.

After her morning nap we ate lunch and headed to the grocery store. My drink at Starbucks was free so I treated to myself with some flowers instead!

FYI- every 10th Starbucks drink is free at Kroger with your Kroger card. Along with my much needed groceries I picked up a Cinderella sippy cup, two tunics, two pairs of Capri pants, a giant sketch pad, and toddler crayons for Zoe.

I think she is feeling better!

Sicky McSickerson + Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies

Well, I think our sweet baby may have a cold. She had a tough time sleeping last night and my husband and I just assumed she was teething. When I picked her up from her crib this morning she had both a runny and stuffy nose. You know the kind, your nose won't stop dripping but you are forced to breathe out of your mouth. I think she was mostly annoyed with the boogie buildup because after I cleaned her up she was her normal bubbly self.

See? Sweet baby is all smiles while eating her breakfast- whole grain waffles. Normally she has blueberry waffles but we were out. After breakfast and a bit of playing I decided to put her down for her morning nap. I ate breakfast and caught up on the Real Housewives of Orange County during her nap. She only slept for 30 minutes compared to an hour and a halfmor two. She was sneezing a bit and that woke her up. So I let her play until it was time for lunch.

She didn't seem tired so we played yet again. Then she got fussy so I held her on my chest and she fell asleep! This is a big deal because ever since we transitioned to her crib at 6 months she would never fall asleep on anyone (especially me) unless she was sick. She slept for over an hour and a half on my chest. During this time I got to watch one of my favorite shows- Sex and the City and one crappy movie- Because I Said So. She woke up in a GREAT mood. She was so excited to see Nick when he got home too but he noticed she felt warm. Her temperature was 100.3 and all the websites I consulted said that was still in the normal non fever range but I gave her some baby Tylenol anyways. She played with Nick while I made spaghetti, marinara sauce, lemon butter cream sauce (I adapted this version from the Pioneer Woman with whole milk and some flour), garlic bread, and salad. Nick and I ate our dinner first while Zoe's cooled off. Then I set her up in her high hair to eat her dinner and I whipped up these vegan chocolate chip cookies. No, I'm not a vegan but I love these because it's safe to eat the "raw" batter- no eggs! Plus, I always have the ingredients on hand, no melting or heavy duty mixing, and they only bake for 10 minutes (or not at all if you feel like eating cookie dough). If you decide to try these you have to shape the cookies because they don't fall flat like conventional cookies. So I just roll a ball and then flatten it on the baking sheet.

So that was our Tuesday! I didn't get to go to the grocery store but that can wait until my sweet girl feels better.

Review: Pacifica Enlighten Eye Brightening Shadow Palette

This is my final review of Pacifica beauty products at Target. I'm not a spokesperson for Pacifica- I just love their products!

So this is the Pacifica Enlighten Eye Brightening Shadow Palette.

Here is the back of the box with a list of ingredients.

Here is what the outside of the palette looks like.

And here is the inside! The colors do not have names so I will give a description. From left to right: 1) a taupe light shimmer- great for a highlight, brow bone, or inner eye. 2) a peachy shimmer with a bit of pink- great for the lid. 3) a golden shimmer- also great for the lid, a more dramatic highlight, or a lower lash liner. 4) a smokey light matte plum- great for the crease, upper eyelid, or the lower eyelid for a more dramatic look.

Lastly, here are the four swatches. The lighting doesn't do them justice! Although this palette gives a more natural look you can definitely build the color for a bolder look. The consistency on all 4 shades is great. The plum is probably the least easy to blend. I do not wear eyeshadow primer and these had great staying power with no creasing. The only thing I would have liked to see is a few different looks included with the palette. But, I love this palette overall! It is perfect for travel and I know it is safe to wear on my eyes.
