Weekly Roundup

Last week was so busy I feel like we've been playing catch up and taking it easy this week. Zoe and I took an early morning trip to the grocery store on Tuesday. She immediately took her nap when we got back home and woke up just in time to make it to My Gym.
On Wednesday we had a lazy day- sometimes you just need one!
Thursday we were out and about early again. We went to Toddler Time at a new library and I was impressed. It was different from infant story time but I think we will both love it in no time. For some reason Zoe didn't want to take her morning nap (weird, I know) so we had lunch together and then went to Target. I needed a few personal items and my goodies for our Halloween party next week. Zoe ended up dozing off on the way home and took a little nap.
We also had a lazy day on Friday. But in our defense, the weather was really nasty. It rained, and rained, and rained some more. I stayed up pretty late that night and it was still raining when I went to sleep.
Luckily, it was absolutely gorgeous today. It was a bit chilly in the wee hours of the morning so it was hilarious to see people in sweaters and furry boots in the middle of the day (when it felt 75-80 degrees). I made a quick trip to Whole Foods for groceries and lunch. After I had lunch Zoe and I played in the front yard and drew with chalk for a little bit. It was so nice outside that we got to open our windows this evening!

Dewberry Farm

Last week we took a little road trip out to Brookshire to visit Dewberry Farm. We met our playgroup there bright and early Wednesday morning, after a trip to Starbucks naturally.
We had a great time exploring the farm. We visited a barn with some animals, the playground, and the gift shop on our way out. Zoe had a great time running around but we had to cut our trip short for her morning nap. I was mostly busy pulling a wagon with Zoe and one of her friends so I did not get the best pictures but here are a few from our trip!

Mom's Birthday Weekend in Dallas/ Red River Rivalry

We have had an extra long weekend. Nick had Friday off and he took today off. We lounged around all morning and then we went to have lunch at Ephesus Mediterranean Grill with Zoe.
Now onto our fabulous weekend away! My mom came in town Wednesday night because she had been furloughed. On Thursday we took Zoe to lunch at ZoĆ«'s Kitchen and then ran some errands and did some shopping. We ordered a pizza so I wouldn't have to cook or clean before going out of town. We left as early as possible on Friday morning for our drive to Dallas. We had a great drive with no traffic which was surprising for OU weekend.
Sorry this one is so blurry but it's mom, Zoe, Will, Matthew, and Laila playing outside.
Sweet little Matthew and me!

Abby made us a great dinner of steak, baked potatoes, and fresh green beans. Will grilled the steaks for us. We all had a bit of red wine and bundt cake for my mom's birthday. The next morning we lounged around and ate breakfast. Mom, Will, Zoe, and Matthew went on a walk while the girls took that opportunity to shower and get ready. Abby put together a lot of yummy treats for us to snack on while we watched the game. Well, we mostly watched the game while watching the kids, putting them down for naps, etc.
Everything was orange and red!
The chocolate covered strawberries were made by Will and Abby and covered in orange and red sprinkles.
Of course we had to have red and orange mimosas!

After the game more naps were taken, there was some playing outside, dinner, and then we watched a movie.
Helping Uncle Will transfer all of Grandma's photos to a thumb drive. (The kids were literally on opposite nap schedules- generally only one was awake at a time. That is why I only have one of them both! :( My mom has more on her thumb drive and she will be emailing more to me so I can update this when I get them).
Zoe kept piling toys and things on Uncle Will's face.

On Sunday morning we made a quick trip to church. Uncle Will played with Zoe on the playground the entire time while us girl's enjoyed the service. After church we had to leave so my mom could drive home to San Antonio. The drive back was good even though there was some rain. I never feel like there is enough time in just a weekend but it was so good to see my nephew, Abby, and Will. We will get to see them next month and also the month after that and I'm looking forward to it!

Breakfast at Tiffany's First Birthday Party

I know I am VERY late in posting this blog entry but I mostly wanted to share how I planned Zoe's first birthday party. Since it was her first birthday I selected a theme that I loved. I knew she would be too young to remember any of it and first birthday parties are typically for the parents and family.
After searching online I knew I wanted a less traditional theme. I finally decided on Breakfast at Tiffany's. The movie has a special meaning to Nick and I and Tiffany Blue is my favorite color. This page was helpful in getting my planning started. After I set a date I ordered custom invitations from Etsy. I also ordered the coordinating thank you notes.
Party City was also a place I visited frequently to get decorations. I got Tiffany Blue plates, napkins, balloons, a table cover, serving bowls, and a customizable birthday banner. I also found disposable champagne flutes, cups, silver flatware, cupcake liners, a Z, O, and E candle, a cupcake tower, and some silver serving platters. Some of the random items I picked up were large, plastic diamond rings, ring pops, plastic diamonds for scattering, hanging paper flowers and Zoe confetti. I had a bunch of cheap, glass vases from various flowers sent to me and I spray painted those silver. I also spray painted a few mason jars which I filled with the flatware and straws. I filled the vases with fresh white hydrangeas and pink tulips. I also gathered all of Zoe's baby frames and placed photos of us in the hospital and her newborn pictures in the frames. I used these custom favor boxes from Etsy for the ring pops and also handed out Cracker Jacks. I used the Tiffany boxes I had as extra decorations.
I already had my LBD, Tiffany Blue pearls, heels, and black wayfarers so I just had to order Zoe's outfit. I ordered her a customized lace romper and tutu from Etsy. I ordered her a pair of black wayfarers from Teeny Tiny Optics. I found a small pearl necklace at Charming Charlie's and because she was not walking yet I bought her a pair of Mary Jane socks from Target. She wore a black bow to keep her hair out of her face and a tiny tiara that was a gift from my mom.
Because the party was after Zoe's first nap and before her second nap we decided to serve lunch. I knew this was not the time to be ambitious so the only thing I made were the cupcakes. I used an organic box mix of yellow cake and made the icing from scratch and dyed it Tiffany Blue. I also wanted Zoe to have her own smash cake so I ordered a Tiffany Blue box with a bow from Cakes by Gina. For lunch we served pulled pork sandwiches with white and whole wheat buns, prosciutto wrapped asparagus, fried green beans, mini quiche, chips, a veggie platter, tortilla chips and salsa, nuts, coconut chews, and mint Oreos (which happened to have Tiffany Blue filling). For drinks I made a Tiffany Blue punch and used a large beverage dispenser we received at one of our wedding showers. I added some sliced lemons to add some more color. We also had pink champagne with strawberries.
I also made a playlist that consisted of the Breakfast At Tiffany's soundtrack, Birthday by the Beatles, Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend by Marilyn Monroe, Single Ladies (Put A Ring on It) by Beyonce, and Breakfast At Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something.
