Rainy Tuesday

Although Zoe and I woke up early yesterday we did not go out. It was raining pretty hard in the morning and sprinkled the rest of the day. There was no way I was going to juggle Zoe, a shopping cart, and an umbrella in the rain. So we stayed in and had a fun lunch (corn dogs and tater tots, organic of course) and had fun playing. Well, Zoe played while I did laundry.

It was rainy today as well but not as bad. We made it to the grocery store and back safely. I even got to stop by the Starbucks counter first and I got a tortilla press and a comal to make my own tortillas! It is days like today that I am really grateful we have room in our garage for both cars. Zoe's second nap was cut short due to thunder but she was in a surprisingly good mood. She played with her... you guessed it- Bubble Guppies toy! She was so into it I was able to make dinner uninterrupted. 

These three photos are from yesterday. Zoe kept putting her Bubble Guppies toys into the bike trailer so I opened it up for her and she happily played inside.

Lazy Tuesday

Today was an uneventful day but I wanted to share the cute pics I took of Zoe while watching Broadway musicals on the iPad. Her favorites were Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Cats, West Side Story, and Spring Awakening. Although those are some of my favorites so I could be biased.

Zoe woke up super early. I'm guessing this was because she did not take her afternoon nap yesterday. But that at least guaranteed she would take it today. I took a nap in the afternoon as well because I knew Nick was working late and had plans to go to the gym later as well. Sometimes it is nice to stay home and do nothing!

OOTD: Tuesday

Even though I still have a lingering cough I feel better each day- minus the cough and sneeze attacks. Zoe's morning nap was a normal time so I just had enough time to shower and all that. We got to eat lunch together. I called her pediatrician to reschedule her checkup and they had an open appointment an hour after I called. We had some errands to run first so everything worked out perfectly. Of course, baby girl is doing great. She got two shots and screamed at first but perked up when I picked out a Thomas the Train sticker for her. We stayed home the rest of the day because I never know how she will react to her shots even though it has always been good.

While Zoe was taking her afternoon nap and Nick was off getting a haircut I started dinner. I made my tried and true spaghetti and meatballs. Although I have yet to venture into making my own sauce from scratch (I will get there someday!) I make a great meatball. I use a really basic recipe but the possibilities are endless based on your preferences. Here's what I put in my meatballs:

1 lb. organic grass fed beef

1 organic cage free egg

2-3 slices bread (usually Mrs. Baird's)

About 1/4 cup finely chopped organic onion (any color will do)

Salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste

Um yeah that's it- pretty simple! I bake mine in the oven at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. The grass fed beef cooks much faster than corn fed beef.

After dinner Zoe pushed her corn popper around and played with Pixie. We let her stay up a little late to cheer on the Spurs. They are still ahead with one quarter left. Go Spurs Go! (BTW I purposely didn't wear a Spurs shirt today because the last time I wore one they lost. I do have a silver and black Spurs inspired manicure though.)

I would apologize for my hair if I didn't take these pictures at the end of the day. But I won't because it has been a long (but good) day. Pixie also wanted to be in the picture with me.

OOTD: Tuesday

Today Zoe woke up early! Not what I was expecting after a long weekend but it just meant we got things done faster today. As usual, we ate breakfast and I got ready while Zoe took her morning nap. After we both ate lunch we went to Target for some random things. We also made a quick stop by CVS and the dry cleaners. I was also going to try to squeeze in a trip to Kroger but I caught Zoe yawning in the mirror in the car so we headed home. She played a bit while I put the Target stuff up and soon after that she took her second nap. I was tired so I laid on the couch and watched Maid in Manhattan. I realize that is a very old and cheesy movie but I had never seen it and I ended up liking it. After that we all had dinner and I gave Zoe a bath while Nick got his telescope stuff ready to go out. He went to a field with a friend to look at the planets again. I took that time to catch up n my laundry, get stuff ready for the next day, and I gave myself a mani/pedi while watching The Nanny. Yes, another cheesy, old sitcom. I'm not ashamed though because I really, really love that show. I record all the episodes and my DVR is filled with it. I could watch that show all day, every day! So we all had a very productive day.

Lazy Tuesday

Remember how I said yesterday that my girl can sleep? She slept way in today. Early this morning I woke to fussing. I saw light coming in through the windows so I thought it was later but it was 6:30! I turned on the monitor, watched Zoe wiggle around, and then she stopped. Whew. Later on I woke up with a jolt at 9 am realizing that I had not heard her playing or fussing in her crib. I turned on the monitor again and she wasn't awake yet. Then I got worried. Was she ok? Should I go wake her? What if she's sick? I decided to let her sleep. I'm a HUGE advocate of never waking a sleeping baby so I got up to do some things around the house. Sure enough she woke up around 9:30 and I let her play til 10. So we had a late start to our day!

For dinner I made a modified version of these Disheveled Joseph's. It's really just dressed up Sloppy Joe's. :) I also made French fries, pasta salad, and our sides were celery and carrots (random, I know, but I didn't want to add another pot to the stove top). Everyone enjoyed it!

On another note, I wanted to share this story about Angelina Jolie's double mastectomy. I admire her for having the courage to speak candidly about her decision and to use her celebrity as a platform for women's health. Her story is one I can relate to as my own mom had the same surgery in 2006. At the time I didn't understand her decision to have the surgery. Over time, I realized she was doing what was best for her health but also her piece of mind. She lost both of her parents and my father to cancer and I know she didn't want to go through that herself. Now that I am a mother I realize even more so why she chose to have surgery. I would do almost anything to have more time on this earth with my baby (as well as my husband). Hopefully stories like my mother's and Jolie's will empower women to take control of their health and be proactive.

OOTD: Tuesday + Cupcakes

Today seemed like such a long day even though we didn't do much. I think it was the weather that wore me out. It got up to 84 at one point. After Zoe's late morning nap I went to the fridge to make her lunch but I realized there was not enough for both of us to eat. Since I was dressed and ready to go I decided to go to Zoë's Kitchen for lunch. I got the club pita with their amazing potato salad,and Zoe had grilled chicken and fruit. She LOVES chicken. Hands down that is her favorite food.She could just eat chicken all day long.

After lunch we stopped by CVS. I got a phone call from CVS this morning that one prescription was ready. I don't know about yours but mine calls to the point of harassment until I decide to go in. Then we stopped by a new, local place called Cupcakes Etcetera. I love supporting local businesses and this one is in the same shopping center as my Kroger. The shop has chandeliers, bistro tables, and comfy seating. They even me an email of my receipt instead of a paper copy! I brought home a vanilla cupcake for myself and a strawberry for Nick. My cupcake was delicious! Most importantly, the icing to cake ratio was perfect. Nick said he loved his cupcake too. :)

This dress is so comfortable and effortless. I always end up wearing it with this vest though. I tried beachy waves again but this time I used my flat iron. This picture doesn't do them justice but they came out much better. I'm hoping they look good tomorrow too because I hear the flat iron curls/ waves last longer than any other.

I stayed home today so, again, I dressed for comfort. That's one of the great things about being a stay-at-home mom! So I decided on jeans and a white shirt. When I realized it was almost Fiesta in my hometown I went for this gauzy, embroidered top. These jeans are also really, really comfortable. They have that worn-in feeling even though I've only had them for a year. The sequins on the back pockets add a little glamour too!
